Venue: Fitzgerald Debating Hall, UCD Student Centre 3:30pm - 4:30pm
Dr. Shane Cassidy is the Clinical Director and founder of Neurolinks, where he leads a team dedicated to supporting children, young people, and adults to achieve diverse goals across communication, sensorimotor, social, emotional, and cognitive domains. Neurolinks operates two clinics, in Sandyford and Santry, as well as working with several outreach partners and services. A senior therapist with two decades of experience, Shane holds a PhD in Music Therapy from the University of Limerick and has also worked extensively in mental health, homelessness, and education.
At Neurolinks, music therapy offers neurodiverse individuals a flexible and engaging way to build on their strengths and support their wellbeing. Through a mix of structured and improvisational activities, it can enhance communication, foster social interaction, and provide opportunities for self-expression in a safe and motivating environment. Music can also support sensory regulation, helping individuals to manage stimulation and find calm. Participation in music therapy has been shown to reduce anxiety, increase confidence, and encourage creativity, while group settings promote connection, shared experiences, and a sense of belonging. Through music therapy, Neurolinks creates an inclusive space that empowers individuals to celebrate identity, creativity and individuality.
